About Oasis of AwarenessHi, I'm Natasha. Oasis of Awareness is a holistic psychotherapy and educational services private practice (and my passion project). I am a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Candidate for Certification in Mind-Body Medicine. I offer a unique, collaborative mind-body-spirit healing approach for teens, adults, families, and groups. I particularly enjoy working with those of you who may feel as though you are different or don't quite fit in, such as highly sensitive/intuitive individuals, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender teens and their families. (If you belong in one of these categories, you have probably experienced more trauma than the general population in your lifetime.) I also enjoy working with other healers, and am always amazed by the healing supportive energy of the group circle. What Are You Aware Of?Are you feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, irritable, or angry? You may have more control over your life and your health than you think. I specialize in Mind-Body Medicine and I work with you to heal the problem at the source - by unlocking your own unconscious wisdom and clues to healing. People who contact me are interested in prevention, alternatives to traditional healthcare or psychotropic medication, or natural yet effective treatment methods. They might be pregnant and looking to improve their self-care or decrease use of toxic substances for the baby, or they might not tolerate medication well. Many people are looking for cost-effective, lasting change without dependance on a pill. Did you know that your brain will stop making serotonin if there is a pill providing it for you? The depression, anxiety or irritability you originally started taking the pill to treat may be even worse by the time you go off of the medication. Did you also know that you can increase your serotonin by getting a good night's sleep and spending time in the sun? Did you know that studies show daily exercise to be just as effective as antidepressants in cases of moderate depression? I can teach you effective, research-based ways to reduce chronic stress, improve focus and learning, increase self-regulation, increase coping, decrease pain, decrease anxiety and depression, heal trauma, improve relationships, and improve overall health. I practice these mind-body skills in my own life and will practice them with you in our sessions. I am very familiar with most complimentary and alternative medicine and treatment modalities because I default to it in my own care. I also rely on preventative measures such as avoidance of toxins and pesticides and optimal organic nutrition or "food as medicine". I am knowledgeable about food ingredients and the effects on health, mood and energy. I integrate this holistic knowledge with the traditional training and expertise I have in the individual and family treatment of: anxiety, childhood abuse, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, Asperger's Disorder, severe stress, life transitions, compassion fatigue, pregnancy, parenting and family conflicts, and sexual and gender identity "coming out" issues. You will need to monitor any medications with your doctor with regular practice of Mind-Body Medicine skills because you may find that you need less medication as your body begins to re-balance itself. Medication has an important role and can be life-saving, however I believe it is largely being over-utilized for physical and emotional conditions we can control through basic self-care practices. I am not opposed to mindful use of medication and am happy to collaborate and consult with your healthcare team. I can also provide you with a referral to other integrative or alternative health professionals in the areas of: nutrition, medicine, chiropractic, massage, energy or vibrational healing, acupuncture, homeopathy, and holistic psychiatry. I typically only refer to practitioners I have utilized myself or worked closely with and have found to be highly skilled and effective. |
